Supporting XP requires too many hacks, and while it wouldn't be very
difficult to support Vista as long as we support Windows 7, it's still
not worth it because nobody uses this system anyhow.
Remove most of XP-specific code and don't use wxDynamicLibrary for using
the functions not present in it any longer.
Don't use <wspiapi.h> neither as we shouldn't use it any more.
Update some comments to not mention Windows versions not supported any
longer and also remove mentions of "Vista and newer Windows versions"
from the documentation as this is now always the case.
This commit is best viewed ignoring whitespace-only changes.
This is a combination of running clang-tidy with modernize-use-nullptr
check for some ports (GTK, X11, OSX) and manual changes to the ports for
which it couldn't be used easily (MSW, DFB) and also manually updating
the docs.
Also replace NULL with null or nullptr in the comments as this is more
consistent with the use of nullptr in the code and makes it simpler to
grep for the remaining occurrences of NULL itself.
And also use null in the assert messages.
Only a few occurrences of "NULL" are still left in non-C files, mostly
corresponding to unclear comments or string output which it might not be
safe to change.
This port hasn't been updated for ages and is not used by anybody any
longer, so remove its code to facilitate maintenance.
Also remove references to this port from the documentation and most of
the other places (VMS-specific descrip.vms files still check for it
because it's not clear how to update them all), including configure.
Regenerate the latter and rebake all makefiles.
Finally document that this port is not available any longer.
This is the same thing as bd92523bc5 (Fix use of Doxygen @addtogroup
command, 2022-08-03) except it fixes comments format for all the other
occurrences of "@{" and "@}" too, not just for those used with
@addtogroup which was the problem in #22572.
This fixes many different formatting problems due to attaching various
Doxygen commands to wrong elements because of broken grouping, e.g. all
overloaded functions were documented incorrectly and there were several
problems in wxString documentation.
See #22248.
Since OS X 10.12 it has been named macOS so it makes sense
to reference it in documentation as such, even when it
sometimes refers to older versions which were called (Mac) OS X.
Resetting the insertion point position to 0 after calling
wxTextCtrl::SetValue() or ChangeValue() which didn't really change the
control contents was unexpected, as such calls are supposed to be
"optimized away", and this was indeed the case under wxMSW and wxOSX,
but not in wxGTK.
So change wxGTK to follow the other ports, add a unit test checking for
this behaviour and officially document it.
As a side effect, this ensures that the numeric validator classes don't
reset the insertion point position to 0 on every focus loss under wxGTK,
as happened before.
There is no way to show the hint without native support in a control with
wxTE_PASSWORD style, so simply ignore them completely in this case.
Closes#17078.
Allow automatically converting lower-case letters entered into wxTextCtrl to
upper-case equivalents. Provide generic fallback and implement the method
natively for all the major platforms.
Also update the text sample to show it in action.
Don't prevent people from using hints in wxMSW and wxGTK2, where they work
with multiline text controls too, even though they do not work with wxGTK3 nor
wxOSX.

While the relevant methods are in wxTextEntry, they are only really
implemented for wxTextCtrl in wxOSX, not wxComboBox, which also derives from
wxTextEntry.

This keyword is not expanded by Git which means it's not replaced with the
correct revision value in the releases made using git-based scripts and it's
confusing to have lines with unexpanded "$Id$" in the released files. As
expanding them with Git is not that simple (it could be done with git archive
and export-subst attribute) and there are not many benefits in having them in
the first place, just remove all these lines.
If nothing else, this will make an eventual transition to Git simpler.

Use the same short names as are used by the event table macros for the event
type constants themselves. This makes them much more comfortable to use, e.g.
Bind(wxEVT_BUTTON) compared to Bind(wxEVT_COMMAND_BUTTON_CLICKED).
The old long names are still kept for backwards compatibility and shouldn't be
removed as it doesn't really cost anything to continue providing them, but all
new event types should only use the short versions.

Previously, if a wxGrid row or column was hidden by setting its size to 0, its
original size was lost. Change this so that it's preserved now and can be
restored by setting the size to the special -1 value later.

This doesn't work anyhow, so make it explicit by asserting if an attempt to do
it is made. And document this.
Also add a test of SetHint() to the text sample to verify it still works.

As we already had MSW-specific AutoCompleteFileNames(), we can just as well
also add the also useful AutoCompleteDirectories() to be used with the text
controls used for path entry.

Both completing a set of fixed strings and dynamic completion using a custom
completer are supported, although completing the file names remains MSW-only
for now.
Note that, unlike under MSW, auto-completion under Mac is not automatic and
has to be triggered manually by calling complete: method. This is done by
pressing F5 key by default. In the future we should call it automatically on a
timer event to make it more obviously discoverable.

Add wxTextCompleter class which allows to return the possible completions
dynamically and wxTextCompleter::AutoComplete() overload using it. So far this
is only implemented for wxMSW.
Also fix calling wxTextEntry::AutoComplete(wxArrayString) multiple times under
MSW, this didn't correctly update the list of shown completions before.

virtual DoAutoCompleteXXX() methods to make it easier to add new public
