Add a convenient @since_wx alias which is more appropriate for
single-line comments than the standard @since, which would expand into
two paragraphs.
See #23426.
This is a combination of running clang-tidy with modernize-use-nullptr
check for some ports (GTK, X11, OSX) and manual changes to the ports for
which it couldn't be used easily (MSW, DFB) and also manually updating
the docs.
Also replace NULL with null or nullptr in the comments as this is more
consistent with the use of nullptr in the code and makes it simpler to
grep for the remaining occurrences of NULL itself.
And also use null in the assert messages.
Only a few occurrences of "NULL" are still left in non-C files, mostly
corresponding to unclear comments or string output which it might not be
safe to change.
This port hasn't been updated for ages and is not used by anybody any
longer, so remove its code to facilitate maintenance.
Also remove references to this port from the documentation and most of
the other places (VMS-specific descrip.vms files still check for it
because it's not clear how to update them all), including configure.
Regenerate the latter and rebake all makefiles.
Finally document that this port is not available any longer.
Unsurprisingly, this doesn't work at all with CHM, so allow disabling
using the custom theme when doing it by adding more custom variables.
Using (multiple) variables for this is rather ugly, but we already use
them for other options, so it seems better to keep adding them rather
than using some other mechanism.
Adding a different custom header file is even uglier, but it seems to be
the only way to avoid including the theme JS files into CHM.
Import the theme files into a subdirectory without any changes, even not
removing the trailing whitespace, to facilitate updating them in the
future. Do not add the theme as a submodule as it's surprisingly big
(~12MB) and we don't want to spend extra time on cloning it in each of
our CI builds.
Using this theme gives a nicer appearance and supports the often
requested dark mode.
Remove all colour-related options from the existing custom CSS file as
they don't work well in dark mode.
Also switch to using SVGs with transparent background, rather than PNGs,
for the class diagrams, to avoid background colour mismatch in dark
mode.
In newer doxygen versions, the label was being used as the caption
for the image and not appearing in the 3rd column. The only way to
really fix this seems to be to make the image the last column so that
it doesn't eat the remaining text (there is no way to escape it
apparently).
Done by running misc/scripts/inc_release, manually updating version.bkl,
rebaking and rerunning autoconf.
Also a header for the next version to the change log.
This seems better than requiring yet another environment variable to be
defined, and should work reliably as Doxygen is always run from
docs/doxygen directory.
Leave WXWIDGETS in STRIP_FROM_INC_PATH which doesn't seem to be used
anywhere anyhow -- and so, perhaps, should be removed entirely?
Update misc/scripts/inc_release script: remove non-existent any more files and
update the version in the MSVS 200x project files not generated by bakefile
any more and MSVS 201x project files which were not previously taken into
account.
Run it and rebake.
Using a custom header is an "experimental" feature since it bypasses
several Doxygen configuration options, and skips configuration
changes necessary for all automatically generated LaTeX.
This continues to use the nicer looking custom header, but brings
it up-to-date with the automatically generated one from 1.8.8.

The only private methods appearing in interface/wx/*.h files are meant to be
documented, so do extract them. This should fix wxThread::OnExit() not
appearing in the generated documentation, for example.

This allows to define just one of them to run some tool, e.g. SWIG, on only
the classes defined in the base or in the core library (both are defined by
default for Doxygen itself).
Closes#14785.
